As an entrepreneurial family member, owner, advisor and senior level executive of numerous privately-held companies, Steve has always been empathetic to the challenges of building enterprises of high value.
Speakers: Jean Claveau, VP Business Banking, Bangor Savings Bank
Jean (Jon) M. Claveau joined Bangor Savings Bank in January of 2004 as a Commercial Loan Officer and is located in our Augusta office. Jean has more than 10 years of business and commercial lending experience and has worked on a wide array of lending needs. Prior to joining Bangor Savings, Jean worked as a loan officer for Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI) in Wiscasset. In this capacity Jean had the chance to meet and work with diverse entrepreneurs located all over the State of Maine. Jean earned his M.B.A. at Thomas College in Waterville and BS in Political Science from the Universite Laval in Quebec City. He was awarded the certification of Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) by the National Development Council in 2002.
Betsy Biemann, President Maine Technology Institute
Betsy Biemann has served as President of the Maine Technology Institute (MTI) since January 2005. MTI’s purpose is to support entrepreneurs in the State’s seven targeted technology sectors to bring innovations to market and create good jobs for people across Maine. It makes grants and loans to Maine companies to jointly fund technology development projects as well as by funding collaborative activities aiming to strengthen Maine’s high-potential technology clusters. Betsy joined MTI after serving as an associate director at The Rockefeller Foundation in New York City, where she oversaw a national grant and investment program aiming to increase employment in low-income communities.
Charlie Emmons, Finance Authority of Maine
Charlie Emmons Senior Commercial Loan Officer – The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) Been with FAME since October 2003; Moved to Maine in July 2002 after 33 years in commercial lending and oversight with the Bank of America and its predecessor banks in Baltimore, MD; Married for 42 years – 3 children (two in Maine – 1 in NH) - 3 grandchildren (all in Maine).
Chris Speh, Chair, Maine Angels
Chris Speh Chairs the Maine Angels private equity investment network, bringing more than 15 years of private equity investment experience to the position. Prior to relocating to Maine , Chris helped build two clinical research companies to successful exit in North Carolina , the more recent of which as co-founder and majority shareholder. His previous lives include helping to build a successful international consulting practice at Deloitte Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche) in Washington. DC, service as a Foreign Service Officer, including experience building out the Department of State's computing capability in Embassies and Consulates overseas, and 6 years service in the US Army, including 4 years service overseas, exiting as a Captain. He also has taught undergraduate courses in Corporate Finance as adjunct faculty at North Carolina-based NC State University , Campbell University , and Wesleyan College. Chris currently serves on the Boards of several non-profit organizations in Maine.
