Linda Cross Godfrey, President, Atlantic Leadership Center

Linda Cross Godfrey believes that intentional leadership is the core ingredient of any successful enterprise – personal, professional, or public. Linda has lived this belief and taught this practice for nearly twenty years as founder and president of the Atlantic Leadership Center in Eastport. Linda is also a founding partner of The Commons, LLC., Dirigamus, LLC., and 15 Sea Street, Inc. – three creative enterprises in historic properties which showcase local economy, ecology, environment and both human and alternative energies. Linda has been the senior instructor for the Washington County Leadership Institute for fourteen years and has been called, “one of Maine’s most inspired speakers.” A storyteller, nature lover, and metaphor specialist, Linda will bring together these skills as the Leadership Weaver for this session.  www.thecommonseastport.com

Sam Hayward, Chef/Owner, Fore Street

Sam Hayward is the chef and an owner of Fore Street in Portland, Maine. During his more than thirty years cooking Maine food in Maine restaurants, he has fostered a community of cooks, farmers, fishers, and artisan producers who share his passion for local, sustainable, best-quality, secure food resources, from both land and sea. He is currently vice-president of MOFGA, a founder of Maine Fare, and serves on the board of the Bowdoin International Music Festival. In 2004, Sam was named Best Chef-Northeast by the James Beard Foundation.

Cynthia Major, Director of Marketing and Development, Cobscook Bay Company

Cynthia Major has a professional background in developing and marketing specialty foods. She was the founder and owner of Vermont Shepherd LLC. (1990 – 2006), a farmhouse cheese company and an award winning, internationally recognized cheese business with accounts from coast to coast.  Cynthia works as a consultant for business guided by social and environmental missions in addition to working with Cobscook Bay Company as their Project Manager and Director of Marketing and Development.

John Phinney, CEO, Cobscook Company

John Phinney has been the owner operator of Phinney Fisheries for the past 10 years. He comes from a long line of down east fisherman dating back as far as he can trace is family tree. His Father started Phinney Fisheries in the mid 1970's and they have been buying local seafood ever since. John has seen the industry steadily decline and when he heard of the Cobscook Bay Company  project he became very interested in getting involved. Value-adding our precious seafood resources here in Washington County and supporting our local economy, is something that we all need to take interest in. John is now the CEO of the Cobscook Bay Co. and is excited to have started this incredible ride to achieve this goal.

Alan Furth, Executive Director, Cobscook Community Learning Center

Alan Furth recognized that operant democracy is not an inheritance as much as it is a practice.  He sees social entrepreneurship as serving a powerful role in strengthening democracy and helping to sustain ecological, educational and social vitality, an endeavor Alan refers to as restorative social ecology.  Alan is the Executive Director of the Cobscook Community Learning Center in Trescott, Maine, serves as Chair of the Institute for People’s Education and Action, and is an active member of the Association for World Education. Alan is a musician, and educator and an organizer who sees access to the arts as a social mandate, an entitlement within a healthy culture. www.thecclc.org

John Heald, Chair and Convener Advisory Committee, Cobscook Bay Company

John Heald is the Chair and Convener of Cobscook Bay Company’s Advisory Committee. He retired to Maine after a career in international paper, packaging and printing industries. For the past 3 ½ years John has served on a variety of national and regional for profit and non profit boards.
