Juice 3.0 is hosting a $150,000 Business Plan Pitch Contest!

Juice 3.0 has “juiced up” its pitch competition from the prior conference with bigger prizes and more opportunities for all types of businesses to learn and participate. We have added a day of coaching sessions with experience entrepreneurs and funders and split the contest into five separate tracks. Sign up soon as the contest is limited to 100 participants!

  • You are looking for investment capital for an innovative business idea, or
  • You have a new product, service, or idea for a business you are already operating, or
  • Starting a non-profit organization or a new program at an existing non-profit, AND
  • Fall into one of the five Pitch Tracks

General Information
Prospective participants should first register for the Juice Conference on this website. The contact person on the Pitch Application should register for the Juice Conference using the ‘Juice Pitch Contest’ purchase option. If other members of the business will be presenting for the pitch please have them register with the ‘Juice Conference – Both Days – Early Bird Pricing’ purchase option. The contest is limited to 100 participants/businesses. The organizers of the event reserve the right to decline applicants based on quality of the application and number of total applicants. The Juice Conference reserves the right to change the format as needed to accommodate the number of participants. Participants must self-select one of five tracks: Scalable Innovation, Sustainability, Main Street, Art & Culture, and Non-Profit. See Pitch Tracks for more details on each category.

Prizes
Winners of each category will receive $5,000 prize packages that include a combination of cash and professional in-kind services. The company judged best for potential investor return, as determined by a final panel of judges, will be eligible for a $100,000 investment in the form of a convertible note. Only companies in the Scalable Innovation and Sustainability tracks are eligible for the $100,000 investment. Companies in the other three tracks are eligible for $25,000 in flexible debt financing.

Round 1: Coaching Sessions, Friday November 4th

Participants must self-select one of five tracks: Scalable Innovation, Sustainability, Main Street, Art & Culture, and Non-Profit. Each participating company will have a 20-minute coaching session with two business professionals. One coach will have experience in funding Maine companies or non-profits while the second will be an experienced entrepreneur (for-profit or social). Participants will give a 5-10 minute pitch, followed by Q&A and discussion with the coaches. The top 25 companies (5 in each category) as determined by the coaches will be invited to an Investor Reception on Friday night, following the Conference, and will move on to Round 2 on Saturday. Prior to and following their scheduled Pitch, contest participants will be able to attend Juice Conference plenary sessions and break-outs on both Friday and Saturday.

Investor Reception: Friday Night, November 4th

The top 25 companies (top five in each category) will be invited to an Investor Reception at the Cellardoor Winery, following the Conference on Friday night. The Reception will be attended by investment and funding professionals, including private equity, venture capital, angel investors, bankers, private philanthropists and foundations working in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. The evening will be for networking – no formal pitching but lots of informal pitching!

Round 2: Pitch a Panel, Saturday Morning November 5th

The top 5 companies in each category will be invited to make a 10-minute pitch followed by 10 minute Q&A from a panel of judges. There will be a separate panel for each track made up of 3-5 investors and experienced professionals in the field. Winners of each track will be awarded $5,000 in cash and services. Three companies selected from the semi-finalists for Scalable Innovation and Sustainability tracks will go on to Round 3. No power point presentations. You can bring visual handouts.

Round 3: Shark Tank, Saturday Afternoon, November 5th

Businesses should be prepared to give a 15-minute presentation to investors that will be interrupted with questions from the judges. No power point presentations. You can bring visual handouts.

Shark Tank A: Scalable Innovation & Sustainability Tracks
The top 3 companies, based on investment potential and arising from within either the Scalable Innovation or Sustainability tracks, will be invited to compete in the “Shark Tank” on Saturday afternoon. Each company will have 45 minutes to pitch a group of experienced venture capital investors. Please note that we may select 3 Scalable Innovation companies or 3 Sustainable companies, but most likely will choose a mix. Judges will determine a winner for the Scalable Innovation and Sustainable tracks, who will each receive $5,000 prize packages. Judges will also determine the ultimate contest winner, based on potential for investor return. The ultimate winner will receive the $5,000 track prize and be eligible for a $100,000 investment by the conference organizers, in the form of a convertible note.

Shark Tank B: Main Street; Art, Culture & Design; Non-Profit Tracks
The top company as determined by round 2 from each of the above tracks is invited to the Shark Tank in order to compete for $25,000 in flexible debt financing.

Confidentiality:

As a public conference, the Juice Pitch Competition cannot guarantee 100% that your information will remain confidential, but we will be taking the following best efforts to ensure that your business information is not widely shared.

  • All coaches, judges and staff will be asked to refrain from sharing any sensitive information about participants outside the context of the competition itself, and to recuse themselves from any sessions where there might be a perception of conflict of interest.
  • The only information about participants to be published by the Juice Pitch Competition will be Company Name, City/Town/State, Contact Name, Non-Confidential One Sentence Pitch, and your website if you provide it.
  • Coaching sessions will not be open to the public or to other registrants
  • Round 2 pitches will be open to all Juice Conference attendees
  • Round 3 Shark Tank participants may be asked to do a 3 minute pitch in the Opera House in front of all Juice participants
  • Applications will be reviewed prior to the event by Bangor Savings Bank, coaches and judges of the Pitch Contest
